Wythe County Board of Supervisors Chairman Brian W. Vaught has ordered the Wythe County flag to be lowered to half-staff at the Wythe County campus in honor of Herbert G. Cooley, former Chief Deputy of the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, who died October 26, 2025, at the age of 83.
The Wythe County flag will be flown at half-staff from on Friday, November 7, 2025 — the day preceding his interment.
Note: this directive applies only to the Wythe County flag; the United States and Virginia flags are unaffected by this order.
